This week H&H Metal Fabrication, a custom metal fabrication shop in St. Louis City, closed on the purchase of 806 S 22nd Street and an adjacent vacant lot. The building has been home to the shop for decades. The land next door gives the business room to expand.

The closing comes on the heels of a feature published this week by St. Louis Development Corporation (SLDC), the City’s economic development agency. The piece covers H&H’s growth since Carolyn and Kevin Farrell acquired the business in 2019. It also details the financing tools SLDC put to work on H&H’s behalf. That includes a $150,000 working capital loan from the Local Development Company. It also includes $4 million in New Markets Tax Credits, which generated $550,000 in net proceeds. SLDC also shared a short video feature filmed at the shop, available on their Instagram, Facebook, and LinkedIn pages.

Fuel for Growth in St. Louis Manufacturing

“Our dream has always been to own the building,” said Carolyn Farrell, President. “With the help of SLDC and the NMTC, we’re able to purchase the building, make improvements, install equipment and hire more people. It’s been life-changing for our business.”

H&H used SBA 504 financing to complete the real estate purchase and enable the acquisition of new production equipment.

While much of its work is shipped nationally, H&H has left its mark on St. Louis in ways most people never notice. Their work ranges from enclosures powering large institutions like Union Station, to custom components that support the Chihuly sculpture at the Missouri Botanical Garden’s Climatron, and illuminate the exterior of St. Louis City Hall. That range is intentional. H&H specializes in custom work: if a customer has a design, a challenge, or a specific need, the shop figures out how to build it.

Since the Farrell acquisition, H&H has doubled both production and revenue, grown its team, and invested steadily in equipment and capability. The building purchase and adjacent lot mark the next stage of that investment to fuel continued growth.
